The Google Maps feature in your guide will show the location you’ve set in the General Info section of your guide by default. You can also set the Google Map feature to show multiple pins.
If you include the General Info module in your guide, users will be able to access turn-by-turn navigation to your guide location.
Setting a Guide Location
From the guide canvas, click on Edit Basic Details at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side.
Select the Location tab and enter the Venue Name. In the Address box, start typing the street address of your guide's central location. From the choices that appear, select the address you wish to use then click Save.
Adjusting a Map Pin
We know that Google Maps doesn’t always place the pin on a location where you might like. If that turns out to be the case, you may click and drag the pin on your Google Map to set the location exactly where you’d like it to be. As you drag the pin, the address you see in Builder will update, and may not match the address you see in the app.
In Builder, you'll see the Google Maps location in the Address field from the dragged pin, however, the Address Specifics (Street, City, State, Zip) is what you will see in the app.
Here is the process for setting the Google Map location for the guide's main venue.
Enter the Venue Name, then, in the Address box above the map area, type the address for the location (or get as close as you can).
Click and drag the pin to the specific location you would like to display.
The Address you just typed in will change. That's okay!
Below the Google Maps box with the pin, change the Street field to the address you want to display in the guide and click Save.
The location information will show in the General Info section and at the top of the menu bar in your guide. If your organisation is going virtual, remove all the information from the Address Specific fields and Save. This will remove the location from these places in your guide.
The location will also show on your Guidebook Web page, but you have the option to disable it in Guidebook Web page settings.
Creating a Google Map with Multiple Pins
You may have a list of departments, restaurants, local attractions, or other items with physical addresses that you would like to display to your users at once. This is a great way for users to see what's around them at a quick glance.
Only Google Map locations present in a Custom List will show in the Google Maps feature.
1. Create a Custom List
Click here for help adding a custom list to your guide. If you would like to learn how to view all of your Locations within your guide or edit existing ones, click here.
2. Set Up Your Locations
Once you have a custom list with items, add the addresses for the locations. When you create a location, you have the option to change the Type. Select Google Map, then set the address for that location as shown at the top of this article.
3. Manage Your Google Maps Module
In Builder, click on Add a new feature. Find and add the Google Map menu item. Click on the Google Map menu item, and then click on the Settings tab. You will then see the option to Show all locations. Click to enable this option and Save.
Here's how that Google Map menu item looks on a mobile device, with various pins from the custom list visible on the map at once.
