Use the Leaderboard feature to gamify app adoption and feature usage. Encourage your users to participate in friendly competition for a place on the podium, then reward your most-engaged users.
You can choose which actions end-users can take to earn points. You also set the point values. Then, promote the game, keep end-users updated about changes in the rankings, and showcase your winners.
If the Leaderboard is not already, be sure to add this feature. You can customize the name and icon for the menu item. Then, head to the guide dashboard to see how engaged your users are.
View and Export Rankings
When users log in and earn points, the Leaderboard will be populated here in Builder. This same view will be available to your users in the app and on Guidebook Web.
To access the Rankings, select the Leaderboard feature on the menu and click Leaderboard.
In addition to viewing the current rankings here in Builder, you can export the data to CSV. When the rankings are displayed by User, you will see the points-earning details broken by action. This will tell you which features in your guide are seeing the most activity.
Users who choose not to be displayed in the guide and/or who opt out of usage data sharing will not be included in the Leaderboard rankings.
Be sure to promote the Leaderboard feature and encourage users to join the fun! If you have the Interact social feed available in your guide, you can quickly and easily post a snapshot of the current rankings to Interact. This is a great way to highlight who’s winning and remind users to participate.
Set Points for Actions
Configure your Leaderboard by enabling scoring for various actions related to features in your guide, then, set points for each action.
The more points an end-user can gain, the better the incentive for using the feature. In addition to driving engagement, the Leaderboard can help you nudge your users towards tools and resources you have provided in the guide.
You can choose whether points are awarded each time or just the first time the action is taken. You can also set the value of each action.
Leaderboard can include the following actions:
- Add session to My Schedule
- Connect with a user
- Post on Interact
- Comment on an Interact post
- Like an Interact post
- Post a photo
- Comment on a photo
- Like a photo
- Post in a session discussion
- Comment on a session discussion post
- Like a session discussion post
- Be verified for a session
- Submit a form
If an end-user undoes their action e.g. unlike a photo, they keep their previously gained points.
Don’t forget to click Save in this tab and then publish your guide for changes to take effect.
If you make changes after points allocation begins, the past points earned will not be adjusted. Past points earned remain the same, and the new point values are applied from that time forward.
Manage Settings
By default, the Leaderboard will be displayed by User. However, if you have set up Groups in your guide, you can display rankings by Group. This is a great way to organize your users into teams for collaborative competition.
From the Settings tab of the Leaderboard, you can also choose to exclude certain users from the rankings. This might be specific users/groups, or you might want to exclude all of the guide admins and editors in case staff should not be included in the competition.
You can also pause the leaderboard, which will freeze the current rankings. Then, you can choose to resume scoring.
If you’d like to start fresh, you can reset the leaderboard. This will reset all users’ points to zero. Resetting the leaderboard cannot be reversed!
Don’t forget to click Save in this tab and then publish your guide for changes to take effect.
End-User Experience
The Leaderboard is available on Guidebook’s native apps and on Guidebook Web. Your users simply navigate to the Leaderboard menu item in your guide to learn how to earn points, see the rankings, and review their own points-earning history.
