Updated app layouts on iOS (January 2016)

What's New:

iPhone users will see a more modern layout for guides. Instead of the grid with square icons on the home screen, users can now navigate to content using the slide-out drawer navigation menu!

Tap the "hamburger" icon in the top-left corner of the screen on your mobile device to access the menu. This icon looks like three horizontal lines. From the menu, tap on the various menu items to access the guide's features.

Why did we change it?

In the past, the grid layout with square icons was similar to the home screen of a mobile device, where you tap on various square app icons to open your apps.

Over time, however, best practices in design have changed. Many of the most innovative and popular iOS apps - including Uber, Google Maps, and Facebook - offer navigation through a slide-out drawer menu. This means that users are more familiar with this style of navigation inside apps, and it will be easier to use. It also allows you to get from section to section faster with fewer taps.

Lastly, a major benefit of this change is that the navigation flow is consistent across the iOS, Android, and web versions of Guidebook. This makes it easier for users to assist each other and exchange usage tips, regardless of device. It’s also easier for you, as a guide admin, to give people instructions on how to use the app - you only have to share one set of instructions that will work for all of your users, regardless of device type.
